Bruce In mid cycle - Nitrite spiking - Ammonia gone
Rimless 60 Cube Build

Well this is it my new custom tank is all plumbed and ready to pick up at Gill's in Temecula.

60 gallon rimless cube 24 x 24 x 24 with black back and built in overflow. The bottom is drilled with two returns so there will be a flared pipe on either side for water flow.

The sump/filter is a cpr CY194 Cyclone Bio-Filter with a built in 6 inch skimmer and the bio media will be removed. The open chamber will house a heater, UV unit and occasionally carbon. I already had all this for my 70 tall tear down including a Rio 2500 return pump.

I plan to use about 80lbs of Bio Active black sand and Live rock will come from my other tanks, probably about 35lbs.

Lighting will be a Panorama fixture from Ecoxotic. Since the last meeting was cancelled I didn't get a chance to talk to John Ciotti but i am in no hurry so it can wait until next month.

I am thinking of doing some seagrasses probably Manatee Grass and paddle grass H. ovalis as well as macros.

Finally the tank. More pics to follow.

Your lighting choice is going to look real nice Bruce. I wonder if you can corals and seagrass go together?

There will not be any corals in this tank although I am thinking of converting my 30 cube to a reef tank.

That's going to be a slick looking setup. Did you get the 18" or 24"? I can't seem to find any info on these lights in regard to light output.

I am leaning toward the 24 inch. If you come to the August meeting Dan you can ask the expert, John Ciotti, in person about light output. oh and hear my talk as well.

Well the tank remains at Gill's in Temecula. The plumbing is pretty much done but I will have to glue the pipes for the returns and drain when the tank is finally set up at home.

I ordered 80 lbs of black bio active sand or about 3 inches worth. Jeff at Gill's at first refused to order it for me After some bickering back and forth i finally convined him that it would look OK. Good thing we are good friends as he can be very mule headed at times.

The returns

Under the hood.
